While away an hour at Liberty London

This week I found myself with an hour to kill between appointments in central London and rather than opting for the classic time filler (a whip around Topshop’s flagship store) I popped into Liberty’s. Eschewing the usual choice of the second floor fashion department, I decided to ride those gorgeous wooden lifts up one extra floor. And I am so pleased I did. The third floor houses all manor of fabulous things from adorable childrenswear to stylish gifts, trendy tomes to colourful fabrics. I loved it so much I spent most my hour taking pictures so that I could share it all with you. Here’s a little guided tour of what caught my eye…

It’s a Taschen fashion haven in the book department. The hilarious illustrated ‘Man Meets Woman’ by Yang Lin (£10) makes a great little gift.

Rory Dobner’s macabre letter tiles would bring gothic drama to a bathroom or kitchen (tiles, £39.50 each). I love the use of neon lighting in the store too.

Ditsy florals – the famous Liberty print adorns plates, aprons and kitchenware. Also check out the paper floral installation by Zoe Bradley (zoebradley.com)

Everybody loves rhubard and custard (Sweets, £6.95 a jar, Flowers of Liberty)

Get inspiration for this season’s 70s trend in the fabric department – a printed paradise. I love how colour co-ordinated these bold textiles are.

And finally (if you’re feeling generous) a little designer childrenswear to treat a mini one

So next time you have an hour to spare in central London or need to buy a unique gift for that difficult to please friend (we all have one) then you really should pop to Liberty London. What’s most amazing is the grand setting and stunning wooden interior. As a fellow shopper merrily remarked in the lift, ‘Ah Liberty’s! Couldn’t you just live here’. Yes, indeed I could!

Label watch: Ruby Rocks

From floral to tribal and abstract to geometric, colourful prints have been making a strong summer statement for several seasons and the trend shows no sign of abating. For SS14 Alexander McQueen, Celine and Mary Kantrantzou all championed the trophy print, with many opting for the matchy-matchy approach of head-to-toe pattern.

This is all music to my fashion ears as I have long had a predilection for bold prints (much to the dismay of previous boyfriends I might add). So I was delighted when I was recently introduced to British label Ruby Rocks. Stepping into their showroom is like walking into a vibrant fashion jungle with rails of garments featuring tropical florals, bold peacock feather prints and geometric Aztec patterns. Set up in 2006, the label has been five times nominated by fashion insider Drapers for their Young Fashion Brand of the Year award.

Head designer Izzy regularly flies to Bali to design all their unique prints and create their fabrics. Cute jumpsuits and Hawaiian print shirtdresses will satisfy vintage fans, whilst those who prefer trainers to pin curls will love their crop tops, bombers and printed trousers -which all tap into the hugely popular sports-luxe trend.

An Oasis of summer delights

Every so often in the monthly round up of press days you stumble upon a presentation that is so beautiful it warrants it’s own blog. Last week, that was Marks & Spencer’s stunning SS14 offerings, and this week the title goes to Oasis, who yesterday wowed the fashion crowd with a beautifully styled set and some gorgeous girly garments.

Described by PR Manager Lindsay Butcher as ‘Stepford housewives meets Edward Scissorhands’, the make-belief world of ‘Matchy-Patchy Mews’ is based on the opening scene of the 90s cult classic – the part where the camera pans down an American avenue of neatly kept lawns and identikit houses.  Yet behind the perfect facade there is a strange murmur of unease and a world of contradiction. I am pleased to report that Oasis’s fashion boulevard was far less sinister, yet equally intriguing (despite the unusual human-sized bright pink bunny rabbits).

The Spring Summer 2014 press day showed brocade dresses hanging on washing lines, trowels and plant pots filled with statement jewels and sunglasses, and dummies dressed in pastel 50s inspired looks pushing boldly painted pink shopping trollies.

So onto the clothes… prints featured heavily whether they be ditsy florals, bold botanical clashing prints or snakeskin jacquards.  Denim was found in the form of a cute sundress and A-line skirt, and crop tops, structured leather and the aforementioned pastel tailoring was also showcased.

Quirky floral print birdhouses and sheds peppered the set – so adorable!

If only I could look this chic whilst mowing the lawn…

As an added treat there was also the gorgeous pop-up cafe, which was serving tea and coffee along with some fantastic ladybird macaroons, plant pots of humous and veg sticks and jam jars of superfood salad.

With such a gorgeous presentation, who wouldn’t want to live on Matchy Patchy Mews?  Come next Spring, I know where I’ll be heading.

The above images were all taken at yesterday’s Oasis SS14 press day.  Items will be in store from February 2014.  To view the current AW13 collection, including the fabulous Loved by Mollie edit, head to http://www.oasis-stores.co.uk.

Urban florals

This week I have been very busy with two big jobs. One is a street style international online campaign for Gap, and the other is styling for the final episode of series 3 of Ashley Banjo’s Secret Street Crew (Sky 1). We started filming this series as far back as March, but had to have a 2 month break whilst Ashley and the Diversity boys filmed another show.

One of the options for our final group (which consists of 6 lovely ladies) is a floral bomber jacket. Unfortunately, I can’t divulge whether we are going with this look but it has inspired a street style blog about said jackets. I hope you like them…

If you like the look and are after something similar then Dorothy Perkins has some fab options in the sale.  Buy a size too big and team with shorts for summer and trousers for winter.  A black and white tee also looks good (as seen in the above images) whether it be linear or graffiti text.  Heels or high tops are my preferred footwear for this look.

On another floral note, I also found this rather cute floral baseball cap by a brand called T.W.O Face – an independent urban clothing label from London.  Check out their other styles here http://theworldsoriginalface.bigcartel.com/
