Get back to nature this weekend

We’re nearing the end of January and whilst another month of winter is still ahead I feel that spring is almost within reach. Also in London we have been very lucky of late and have been treated to some beautiful bright crisp days. I have been making the most of these and getting out whenever possible and I encourage you to do the same. Take the opportunity today or this weekend to wrap up in a warm coat and woolly scarf and venture out in the open air. And I know it may seem obvious, but whilst you’re out take a look around. Last week I took these photos of my local London park, Tooting Common. As you can see by the shadows these were taken in the late afternoon. I find the low, warm winter light at this time of year stunning. It makes everything incredibly photogenic!

Above pictures all taken on Tooting Common

On another day of observational exploring I started noticing the features on the surrounding Tooting houses. Having studied fashion design at University I am often inspired by details, be it textures, patterns or colour combinations. This is something that has stayed with me in my work as a stylist and I regularly note clever pairings or interesting decorations along with the more traditional fashion-focused outfit spotting. As you can see you never know what you may find on your doorstep or how it will inspire your work or an outfit in the future. Happy exploring!

Here the contrast of the stripy pattern of the brickwork and the interlinking circles of the balcony caught my eye.

The perfect boots (and more)

I recently treated myself to a little splurge in one of my favourite shoe shops Kurt Geiger. As well as finding the perfect pair of black ankle boots – leather, a solid 2 inch heel and great detailing – I also picked up this super cute pompom hat and a red snake print make-up bag that is big enough to double up as a clutch. image image

Saffiano cosmetic pouch, £49, Kurt Geiger London (only pink available online)

Whilst the stores may be filling up with next season’s trends it’s pretty darn cold outside and sometimes sense prevails. For now, I think a warm hat is wiser than a strappy dress and I’ve not taken this one off since I bought it.

When I went to write today’s post to tell you all about my shop I had a browse of the Kurt Geiger site and spotted so many amazing bargains that I had to share them with you. I know January is the month of purging, but if you have any money left after Christmas and are searching for great end-of-sale reductions then look no further. Happy shopping all!

Get Christmas all wrapped up

It’s only a week until Christmas and the final countdown is on. The tree is up, the turkey has been ordered and most of you will have got your gifts sorted – unless you’re the type that runs around on the 24th in which case good luck! One of my favourite activities is wrapping presents and I love to go all out with colour co-ordinated tags and ribbons. For the last few years I have opted for the stylish tried-and-tested brown paper and black ribbon theme, but this year I have decided to up my wrapping game. If like me you spend hours perusing the aisles of Paperchase and get giddy with excitement at stylish bargain basement Tiger then Hema is the new store for you.

This summer saw the launch of its first three UK stores with branches in London Victoria, Kingston and Bromley, as well as online for those outside the M25. And what a colourful treat it is. Stacked high with stamps, stickers, wooden toys, quirky snacks, beauty products and more, this popular Dutch import has been a huge hit in the UK. It is perfect for gifts and stocking fillers and with prices starting at 75p, it is also kind on the purse strings (but be warned, you’ll end up buying far more than you planned to). This week I popped to the Kingston store to take a look and my inner stationery geek fell in love. Here’s what I found…

My week in pics (Pink and red)

This week I have been busy running around press days, viewing next Spring/Summer’s collections. Along the way I have taken plenty of pics, both for my reference and for this blog. One trend I have noticed is a sway towards pink and red, whether seen independently or fused together on one piece. Like navy and black this is a colour combination that raises sartorial eyebrows, but it happens to be one of my favourite pairings. Today’s post is a medley of my own images from the last week, all with a pink and red hue.
